Kelsey Hughen is a singer, songwriter & performer whose original music spans across genres. Kelsey grew up as a classically trained singer in Austin, TX. After university Kelsey moved to New York City, where she found a true sense of belonging as an Artist.
Kelsey became a regular performer at Rockwood Music Hall accompanied by a crew of very talented musician-friends. Her debut EP was recorded in NYC and released as five singles in 2019 after a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Kelsey's songs tell whimsical stories, woven together by cinematic melodies that transport listeners to a dreamy space with her unique sound and clear-toned voice.
After five years in NYC Kelsey made her way back to Austin where she had a residency at the Parker Jazz Club (2019-2020). In 2023 she made her musical theatre debut in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s, Cinderella, at the Georgetown Palace Theatre, followed by The Sound of Music, in which she had the joy of playing Liesl von Trapp!
Kelsey’s nomadic spirit has taken her around Europe and the UK. In 2021 -2022 Kelsey lived in Italy working as an au pair and then made her way to Edinburgh, Scotland where she spent time writing music and also performed an intimate show Natami Gallery.
Today, Kelsey continues to flutter between Austin, NYC and the UK. She is in the process of recording her second EP in NYC with producer, Kory Burrell. Stay tuned for the release of these six songs in later 2025!
Kelsey finds great fulfillment in living a creative life and cultivating community wherever she goes. She is tremendously grateful for the opportunities she is given to do what she loves.
"Kelsey Hughen channels the spirit of Irish folk ballads, but her work is no simple imitation. Her sound is polished, and her compositions tenderly crafted—so obviously the product of passionate professionals."
